Unit 1: 1450 - 1650: What Were They Thinking?

Overview

In this unit, you will be introduced to the course question - How did we get here? - and you will begin to use the historical thinking concepts to understand primary source documents and historical events, people and developments. In this unit, you look at historical events and places in four regions: Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa to understand the unit question: “What were they thinking?” in the time period 1450-1650. You will be examining primary and secondary sources to build your own understanding of world history through the inquiry process.

Unit 2: 1650 - 1789: What's Worth Fighting For?

Overview

In this unit, you will be exploring the unit question - “What’s worth fighting for?” through a selection of global events, people and developments in the world from 1650-1789. You will continue to practice applying the concepts of historical thinking to understand primary source documents and historical events, people and developments.

Unit 3: 1789 - 1900: What Re-Shaped the World?

Overview

In this unit, you will be exploring the unit question - “What re-shaped the world?” through a selection of global events, people and developments in the world from 1789-1900.  You will continue to practice applying the concepts of historical thinking to understand primary source documents and historical events, people and developments.

Unit 4: 1900 - Present: Are We Any Better?

Overview

In this unit, you will be exploring the unit question - “Are we any better?” through a selection of global events, people and developments in the world from 1900 to the present, organized around themes.  For each theme, you will examine events, people and developments by applying the historical thinking concepts. You will also assess whether the events, people and developments you examine meet your criteria for “A Better World.

Unit 5: Culminating Unit: How Did We Get Here?

Overview

In this, the last unit of the course, you will complete your Course Culminating Activity. You will also complete a short metacognitive reflection to assess your own learning processes.
