In this unit you will demonstrate your current skill level in each of the four strands of the English curriculum (Reading, Writing, Oral Communication, and Media Studies). You will also learn how to take and give feedback and what it means to reflect on your learning.
The main focus for this unit is to enhance your skills in the reading strand. You will read a variety of texts from many different perspectives, and will learn how to analyze the forms of these texts and how their features communicate meaning to their audience. Finally, you will demonstrate your understanding of these concepts through group novel discussions, an article deconstruction and a media product.
This unit will focus on the media strand of the English curriculum, where you will engage with a variety of media texts from many different perspectives. You will learn how different media conventions and techniques communicate meaning to their audience and you will demonstrate your understanding of these concepts by creating a video that contains both photos and audio.
How do I share my voice in writing? In this unit you will engage with a variety of styles of writing. You will learn how to use pre, during and post writing strategies to communicate your voice clearly to your chosen audience. You will then demonstrate your understanding of these concepts through the creation of multiple pieces of writing which you will share as a portfolio.
How do I listen to hear the voices of others and speak to share mine? In this unit you will learn how to use effective listening and speaking strategies. You will also learn how to change your style of speaking in order to communicate to different audiences. You will demonstrate your understanding of these concepts through writing and performing a speech.
How do I share my voice? In this unit you will share your voice by demonstrating your skills in all four strands of the English curriculum. You will write a reflective essay, create a short self-narrated reflective video and analyze both a fiction and nonfiction text.
In this unit, you will consolidate the concepts and skills you have learned throughout this course. You will complete the course culminating activity, through which you will analyze the impacts of energy transformation technologies on society and the environment.
