Artifacts
Artifacts provide evidence of learning, knowledge, skills, experiences, and accomplishments. They can also illustrate goal-setting and planning.
Artifacts can include a wide range of items, such as samples of work, assessments, reports, certifications, proof of accomplishment, etc.
Artifacts can be in several formats, including graphic, audio, and video.
Organize
Artifacts can be organized into collections based on several factors… e.g., time, place, topic, skill, purpose, and so on.
Organizing artifacts encourages not only easy access but, most importantly, encourages greater recognition and understanding of one’s prior learning, experiences, skills, and so on.
Reflect
Reflection on a specific artifact or collection of artifacts produces deeper meaning, allowing the ‘author’ to discover and express the significance of the item(s).
Reflection encourages self-discovery, goal-setting, and planning.
Present
Portfolios containing artifacts and reflections are presented in a manner that is suited to the purpose. Important decisions are made regarding what artifacts and reflections to include and how they be organized and displayed in the most effective and efficient manner possible.
