Sociocultural Anthropology Part 1

Linguistic Anthropology

Sociocultural anthropology explores the great diversity that exists in human social life throughout the world. Sociocultural anthropologists are interested in learning more about how societies throughout the world work, how societies throughout the world change, and how societies relate to the current, modern world.

Watch or listen to these videos to learn more about sociocultural anthropology.

As you watch this second video clip, you’ll learn more about the research method of ethnography used by anthropologists to gather research. You’ll also learn about the importance of thinking objectively(definition: in a way that is not influenced by personal feelings or opinions) and how important it is to avoid being ethnocentric, which means evaluating other peoples and cultures according to the standards of one's own culture (something you learned about in Unit 1).
