In Unit 1, Thinking Like a Social Scientist, you will begin to address the question 'How can the social sciences help us to understand human behaviours, interactions and cultures?' You will be introduced to the three social sciences we will study in this course - anthropology, psychology, and sociology. You will also learn about the importance of using the Social Science Inquiry Model when conducting research throughout the different disciplines.
In Unit 2, Psychology, you will have an opportunity to learn about the theories, perspectives, and research methods used by psychologists to study human behaviour, culture and socialization. You will apply different strategies to develop discipline specific literacy skills and 21st century competency skills as well.
In Unit 3, Sociology, you will have an opportunity to learn about theories, perspectives, and research methods used by sociologists to study group behaviour, social interactions, social culture, and socialization. You will apply different strategies to develop discipline specific literacy skills and further develop your 21st century competency skills as well.
In Unit 4, Anthropology, you will have an opportunity to learn about theories, perspectives, and research methods used by anthropologists to study human behaviour, culture and socialization. You will apply different strategies to develop discipline specific literacy skills and further develop your 21st century competency skills as well.
This final culminating activity asks you to do two things: reflect on your learning in the course; and apply what you have learned to the question about which has the greater influence on us: our nature (how we were born) or nurture (our environment and our experiences).
