Box 14: Your employment income. This is your total salary before any deductions you made have paid. (Deductions may include: income taxes, CPP, and other benefits).
Box 16: The amount you contributed through your employer to the Canadian Pension Plan (CPP). The CPP provides you with pension income after you retire. You can deduct CPP payments when you file your income tax return.
Box 18: The amount you paid through your employer to Employment Insurance (EI). You can deduct EI payments when you file your income tax return.
Box 20: The amount you paid through your employer to a Registered Pension Plan (RPP). An RPP is a private pension plan that has been set up by your employer. It is different from the CPP. Both the CPP and any RPP provide you with pension income after you retire. You can deduct RPP payments when you file your income tax return.
Box 22: The amount of income tax already deducted from your pay cheques. If the amount of tax deducted is more than you are supposed to pay, you will get tax refund. If the amount deducted is less than you are supposed to pay, then you still owe the difference. This is determined when you file your income tax returns.
Box 44: The amount of union dues you have paid through your employer. Union dues can be deducted on your income tax return.
Box 46: The amount of any charitable donations you have made through your employer. Charitable donations can be claimed as a tax credit when you file your income tax returns.
