This Unit focuses on the importance of Biological molecules. If we want to understand what makes organisms and their organs function we need to focus in on the parts they're made of: cells, organelles and biological molecules. We will examine some of the ways Biologists can view biological molecules and cellular structures.
Throughout this Unit we begin collecting answers to three big questions we will explore throughout this course:
A large part of an organism's biological activity is focused on maintaining this balance. Nutrients and energy need to be acquired and stored. Wastes need to be removed. Genetic information needs to be copied correctly before cell division. Even on a population level individuals interact in a way that affects their population growth.
In addition to exploring the three questions from the first Unit, we begin collecting answers to a fourth big question. These four questions are:
In this Unit you will be able to demonstrate your best skills and understanding of concepts that you practiced in this course. The concepts and details about biological molecules, their interactions, and biological processes will allow you to demonstrate how they are linked together.
This final culminating activity asks you to do two things: reflect on your learning in the course; and apply what you have learned to the question about which has the greater influence on us: our nature (how we were born) or nurture (our environment and our experiences).
